Are you the next BCIA board treasurer?

with No Comments

After twelve amazing years of service, Susan Gmeiner is ready to step down as the BCIA board treasurer. If you’ve been wanting to be more connected to the babywearing industry and the BCIA, you love numbers, and you want to help choose the direction of our growth, you might be our next treasurer!

But wait! Are you worried about whether you’re qualified? There’s a good chance you are! The ideal candidate is organized, has some familiarity with Quickbooks, understands basic budgets and how to balance a checkbook, and is excited about being a part of the BCIA.

As our treasurer, you will:

  • Keep up-to-date records
  • Balance the checkbook and Paypal accounts
  • Periodically prepare financials and help the director with the annual budget (preparing financials only takes a minute or two if the books are balanced)
  • Get the books to the accountant at the end of the fiscal year
  • Pay some of the bills

These are the basics. If you’re willing to take this on, please reach out to Kristi.

Nominate the perfect treasurer

Can you think of a fellow BCIA member or even a colleague connected to the industry who would love to be our treasurer who is not a current member? Nominate them! Email Kristi with their information and she’ll reach out to connect.

Additional opportunities for a treasurer

This next bit is NOT a requirement, but I want to make sure you are aware of the opportunities for growth. If you want to be more involved, or to build your resume in this area, you can also participate in strategic financial planning, fundraising, or other aspects of the BCIA finances.

What to know about being part of the BCIA board

The BCIA relies on our dynamic, volunteer Board of Directors to move our organization forward year after year.

As a board member, you will attend an hour-long board meeting every 1-3 months, and you will have the ability to vote on major decisions and direct the organization. You’ll be able to network closely with industry leaders and have opportunities to represent the BCIA at occasional events.

There is also, of course, the prestige connected with being a board member of the only trade organization dedicated to the baby carrier industry.
