BCIA Resource Development Committee

with No Comments

The BCIA and the Resource Development Committee are seeking additional interested members who would like to participate in this project. There is no requirement to be a ‘babywearing expert’ (we have lots of those!) but if you work or volunteer in one of the fields listed below, we would love to have your expertise. We are also particularly looking to make sure that we have committee members who are Black, Indigenous, POC who are working in these spaces and/or babywearing education. This is an international committee and open to all.

The aim:

Our goal for 2021-22 is to build meaningful connections with the industries and communities who use, or could be using baby carriers in their practices. One of the projects we are undertaking is the creation of ‘resource kits’ for professionals who promote babywearing with their clients.

These resources will target and include the following professional groups:

-doulas (birth and postpartum) and birthworkers

-lactation consultants

-midwives, doctors, pediatricians, NICU staff

-public health, community nurses, social workers

-chiropractors, OT, physiotherapists

The committee is working on developing the following materials:

-a robust library of babywearing and related research articles grouped by interest to the target group housed on the BCIA site

-PDF resources that can be printed or shared digitally with clients

-a ‘when to refer out’ guide and how to find an educator partner with the correct knowledge base/who is geographically well situated

-why continuing education in baby carrier use is valuable

-targeted blog content via interviews with specialists and researchers

-shareable graphics of proper carrier use/positioning

-shareable social media content

-targeting misconceptions/needed information for particular professional spaces

Commitment:

The committee meets monthly via conference call for approximately 1 hour and otherwise works via email/shared document space. It may later on develop into smaller task groups by profession/region/country etc. but at this point we are still in the initial organizing stages. If this sounds like something that is of interest to you or to someone in your network, please get in touch with Linnea Catalan, Executive Director at director@babycarrierindustryalliance.org

Our next call is tentatively booked for Monday, July 19th from 12-1pm ET/9-10am PT.
